Fatsia ‘Japanese Aralia’

Fatsia japonica, also known as Japanese Aralia, is a shade-loving shrub that thrives in moist conditions. The huge leaves are deeply lobed and grow to almost a foot wide, and the plant itself can grow upwards of 8 feet tall. It produces flower clusters in the fall, once the plant is mature. Fatsia can be grown in beds or in containers both inside and out.

This plant prefers shade or dappled light. 

Fatsia plants need their soil to be consistently moist but not waterlogged, so you should water them when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. 

 

Spring/ Summer:
Water deeply if planted or in a pot— if potted, water until it begins to drain from the pot, then discard any excess water from the saucer. 

 

Fall/ Winter:
Reduce watering in the Fall and Winter when growth slows, and ensure the plant is in well-draining soil to prevent root rot.
