If planted outdoors, this plant prefers full sun to partial shade. Grown indoors, it prefers bright but indirect light.

 

Water this plant when the top one to two inches of soil feel dry, ensuring the soil is thoroughly moistened but not waterlogged. Allow the excess water to drain completely from the pot to prevent root rot, which is a common problem with this plant. Water less frequently in cooler months and more often during the hot, dry summer, but always let the soil dry out a bit between waterings. Moist, rich, well-drained soils is best for this plant. Humidity will be helpful indoors. Yellowing of the leaves will occur if overwatered.
