Cyperus 'Umbrella Papyrus'

Cyperus alternifolius, also known as Umbrella Papyrus, is known for its bracts that are attached to a stem, creating a cascading "umbrella" appearance. They originate from Madagascar, West Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. They have well developing root systems that anchor nicely in wet soil, making this a great plant along a water feature, rain garden, or in an area that floods.

Due to Charleston's intense summer sun, these plants do well in part-sun to shade. If planted in full sun, they need protection from the harsh rays as well as strong winds which can damage the bracts. 

This plant loves water and is ideal for flooded areas, or rain gardens. This plant can be grown in full water. If it is planted in soil, it's roots must stay wet indefinitely.
