Lavender 'Otto Quast'

Lavandula stoechas 'Otto Quast', also known as Spanish Lavender 'Otto Quast', is a compact and drought-tolerant shrub, growing 1–3 feet tall and wide with gray-green foliage and distinctive purple "pineapple" flowers topped with purple bracts ("rabbit ears"). It is more prostrate, compact, and prolific of a bloomer than it's parent cultivars—blooming repeatedly from spring through summer.

This plant requires full sun (6+ hours) to thrive and bloom. It performs best in hot, dry, sunny conditions. Inadequate light will cause poor blooming and weak growth. 

This plant requires low, infrequent watering once established, as it is highly drought-tolerant. Water young plants weekly during their first season to establish roots. Reduce watering to only when the soil is completely dry. Overwatering causes root rot, so ensuring excellent drainage is essential.

Prune twice yearly—after the first spring bloom and again in late summer/ fall—by cutting back the green, leafy stems by to maintain a compact, mounded shape. Avoid cutting into old, woody, leafless stems, as this inhibits regrowth. Regular, light pruning prevents the plant from becoming leggy. We recommend Bond Bypass Pruners.
