Cornus 'Flowering Dogwood': Pink

Plant this flowering dogwood in a site that receives full sun to partial shade. With our hot Charleston summers, it may need more shade, especially in the afternoon.

This tree requires consistently moist, well-drained soil, needing deep watering 1–2 times per week (about 1–2 inches) during the first two growing seasons to prevent drought stress. Water the soil directly, ideally in the morning to avoid foliage disease. Established trees need less frequent watering but require deep soaking during summer heat and dry spells. Mulching is crucial for moisture retention. 

Plant in well-drained soil that is high in organic matter and has a slightly acidic to neutral pH. We suggest Espoma Soil Acidifier. 

Apply mulch to conserve moisture, keeping it away from the trunk. Apply 2–4 inches of mulch around the base (but not touching the trunk) to retain moisture and keep roots cool.
