Mentha x villosa, also known as Mojito Mint, is a hardy perennial hailing from Cuba—known for it's traditional use in the mojito cocktail. It has bright to medium green leaves, often with a puckered texture and distinct reddish stems. Mojito mint produces small, spikes of white to pale pink or lilac flowers in early to late summer. While these blooms attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, they can reduce the flavor intensity of the leaves, so gardeners often pinch them off. This plant grows in USDA Zones 5-9.
