Asclepias 'Milkweed': Tuberosa
Asclepias tuberosa, also know as Tuberosa Milkweed, is a tuberous-rooted, herbaceous perennial. This plant is native, and can be found found across a wide area of eastern and southern North America, including Mexico. You can spot this plant in dry, rocky open woods, glades, prairies, fields, and roadsides. The plant is easily grown in average to poor soil as long as it has well draining soil. It is drought-tolerant and can be moderately salt-tolerant. This plant grows upright, typically in clumps 1 to 3 feet tall. Mature plants may freely self-seed in the landscape if seed pods are not removed before they open. Milkweed establishes a deep taproot and does not do well if transplanted. Milkweed is a great choice for a meadow garden, native or pollinator garden, with showy yellow-orange flower clusters topping its upright stems. Pair it with other plants like native, ornamental grasses and wildflowers.

Unlike many of the other milkweeds, this species has clear sap. Be sure to wear gloves when handling Milkweed, as the clear sap may cause contact dermatitis.
