Fragaria x ananassa, also known as Strawberries, are a rosette-forming, broadleaf evergreen perennial in the Rosaceae (rose) family and originated in Europe as an accidental cross between a North American and Chilean species. Strawberries do not like our hot and humid Charleston summers, but they grow wonderfully in window and hanging baskets as a fruit producing annual during our mild spring.
