Magnolia 'Bracken's Brown Beauty'

This tree thrives in full sun to partial shade. Full sun is recommended for the densest foliage and best blooming. In our hot Charleston climate, it would do well in morning shade and afternoon sun.

Bracken's Brown Beauty Magnolia requires consistent, deep watering to establish a strong root system during its first 1-2 years, ideally 2-3 times per week, or daily immediately after planting.

If moist peaty soils are available, Southern Magnolia will thrive in full sun and hot conditions once established. If irrigation cannot be provided periodically, plants located in partial shade for several years after planting seem to grow better. Very drought tolerant when grown in areas with plenty of soil for root expansion. Only moderately drought tolerant in restricted-soil areas or in areas with poor, dry soil. 

Once established, it prefers consistently moist and well-draining soil, but is drought-tolerant—requiring water during dry periods or throughout or hot Charleston summers. 

Be sure that there are no roots circling close to the trunk, as Magnolia is prone to girdling roots. Cut any circling roots prior to planting—for this, we recommend Bond Drop Forge Pruner.
