Asclepias 'Milkweed': Whorled

Asclepias verticillata, also known as Whorled Milkweed, is a native perennial wildflower found in the sandhills, thin woodlands and barren outcroppings in most areas east of the Rockies in the United States. The thin linear leaves are arranged in whorls along the stem and the white flowers appear in small clusters from May to September. It is resistant to deer, drought and dry soils. Use this plant in naturalized areas, pollinator gardens or meadows. It will spread by seed and rhizomes. Seed pods can be removed before self-seeding occurs.

This plant requires full sun (6+ hours) to thrive and bloom effectively. It can tolerate partial shade, especially during the summer months in our hot Charleston climate. 

While the plant is establishing water deeply once a week, especially if there isn't rain fall. Once the plant has established it becomes drought-tolerant.
