Hydrangea 'Oakleaf': Snow Queen
Hydrangea quercifolia 'Flemygea', also known as a Snow Queen Oakleaf Hydrangea, is an award winning cultivar—known for its abundant upright flowers and cleaner, compact growth. It is a medium sized deciduous shrub reaching a height of 6ft tall and 8ft wide, and is native to the Southeastern United States, where it prefers moist woods and stream banks. Oakleaf hydrangea grows best in organically rich and well-drained soil. The white blooms appear from late spring to early summer and are arranged in pyramidal clusters that are very showy. The blooms are not weighed down by rainfall, making it perfect for a cutting garden. Even when not in bloom, the large dark green leaves provide a striking shape. The plant’s more mature branches have an interesting texture when exfoliated in winter. Oakleaf hydrangea’s unique features make it highly suitable as a specimen or accent plant in the landscape, or in open spaces as a mass planting or an informal hedge.
Sold Individually
Available in 3 GalPlant in partial shade to full sun (6+ hours). During the hot summer months, part sun/ shade is ideal as the intense sunshine can stress the plant and require more irrigation.
This plant requires consistent watering—water when the first two inches of soil is dry. Reduce watering to every few weeks when tempretures cool.
Because blooming occurs on old wood, prune if needed immediately after flowering. Winter-damaged stems can be pruned in early spring. We suggest Modern Sprout Garden Pruner.
Your plant needs food too! We recommend Espoma Holly Tone.
Proper nutrition is important to the health of your plant and its longevity. To ensure your plant is getting the appropriate nutrition, use a fertilizer labelled for this plant type and apply according to the label.
