Hesperocyparis 'Cypress': Wilma Lemon
Hesperocyparis macrocarpa 'Goldcrest', also known as a Lemon Cypress, is a cypress with an informal, columnar growth habit and bright yellow foliage that is evergreen and smells of lemons when crushed. It originated in the U.K. in the 1940's. It is a slow growing tree, reaching a height of 7.5 ft in 10 years. It can tolerate a range of soil pH, preferring well draining and sandy soils. In our hot Charleston climate, this tree would prefer partial shade during the hottest part of our warmer days. It is often grown as a lawn specimen, or does well in a container. It will stand up to salt wind.

Available in 4", 1 GalThis plant requires full sun (6+ hours) to maintain its growth and signature bright chartreuse coloring. In our hot Charleston climate, it would benefit from partial shade in the late afternoon to avoid browning.
As an indoor plant, water thoroughly once a week. Regular misting or placing the plant on a pebble tray helps prevent the interior foliage and tips from drying out in indoor air.
As an outdoor plant, water newly planted trees about once a week during their first growing season to help them establish a strong root system. Once established, they need supplemental water mainly during dry or hot spells.
If growing this plant in a container, prune in the Spring to control growth and size. We recommend Modern Sprout Pruners.
Your plant needs food too! We recommend Espoma Plant Tone or Espoma Holly Tone.
Proper nutrition is important to the health of your plant and its longevity. To ensure your plant is getting the appropriate nutrition, use a fertilizer labelled for the needs of this plant and apply according to the label.
