Cleistocactus 'Monkey Tail' Cactus
Cleistocactus colademononis, also known as a Monkey Tail Cactus, is an interesting trailing cactus that hails from the high altitude rocky cliff sided mountains of Bolivia. It makes for a unique addition to any houseplant or cactus collection. Unlike its cousins, this cactus has soft needles that are safe to handle. It has shallow roots (perfect for clinging into small crevices on the mountain side!) and tubular stems that hold water during extended periods of drought. In the wild this cactus can grow a staggering 8ft long, indoors it can grow almost 3ft long in optimal growing conditions. When it matures, beautiful red and pink flowers will grow during the spring and summer, though this may not happen if grown indoors.
