Chionanthus 'Chinese Fringetree'

Grow the Chinese fringetree in a location with full sun or partial shade. The lustrous, leathery foliage looks best when grown in some light shade (dappled sunlight), while the flowering is heaviest when planted in full sun. This tree tends to flower better in alternate years. In our hot Charleston climate, providing afternoon shade can help protect the foliage.

When this tree is establishing (year 1-2) water regularly, roughly every 7 to 10 days, to keep the root zone consistently moist but not waterlogged. When established, and though it is drought-tolerant, this plant perform best with deep watering during extended, hot, or dry periods to maintain foliage and flower quality. Reduce watering significantly in the winter.
