Part sun/ part shade is best for this plant. 

Coontie Palms are highly adaptable to light conditions, thriving in full sun, partial shade, or dappled light—though they perform best with a mix of sun and shade throughout the day. 

While they can tolerate full sun, direct afternoon sun may cause leaf burn, so planting under taller plants or on the north/east side of buildings can provide beneficial shade during the hottest parts of the day.  

Coontie Palms have low water needs once established and are very drought-tolerant, though they require regular watering during their first growing season to develop a strong root system. 

You should water Coontie Palms when the top inch of soil feels dry, ensuring the soil is consistently moist but never waterlogged. Well-drained soil is crucial for these palms, as they do not tolerate wet or heavy soil.
