Lonicera 'Honeysuckle': Purple
Lonicera japonica 'Purpurea', or Japanese Purple Honeysuckle, is a rampant-growing, semi-evergreen vine (up to 16-29 ft) known for fragrant, purple flowers and dark green-purple leaves. It thrives in full sun, requires well-drained soil, and is ideal for trellises or erosion control. It can be both a twining, climbing vine or prostrate and trailing groundcover, spreading both by rhizomes and above-ground runners as well as wide dispersal of the seeds by birds and small mammals that eat the berries.
Please note: This plant is capable of growing over plants and smothering them. It can displace native species by outcompeting plants for light, space, water and nutrients. We advise that you do not plant this in your landscape, but keep it contained in a planter.

This plant requires consistent moisture when establishing (about 1 inch per week), but becomes drought-tolerant once established and mature, needing water mainly during prolonged dry spells. They prefer well-drained soil, as overwatering causes root rot. Established vines typically need low to moderate water, roughly every 10–14 days.
