Citrus 'Lemon': Meyer

Citrus x limon, also known as the Meyer Lemon, is thought to be a cross between a lemon and a sweet orange, brought from China in 1908 by USDA agricultural explorer Frank Meyer. The rich orange-yellow Meyer lemon fruits provide a sweeter alternative to common lemons while bringing color and interest to your home or garden. Self pollinating.

 

As it cannot survive frosts, the Meyer lemon is best grown in a container so that it can be brought inside for the winter in zones below 8b or 9a.

Meyer Lemons prefer full sun to partial shade—the best performance and fruit production occurs in full sun for at least 6 hours. When indoors, keep in a sunny location, preferably in a south-facing window that will provide the most sun.

This plant prefers well-draining soil and drying out in between deep and thorough waterings.

We suggest Espoma Citrus Tone. Fertilize only while growing, Spring to Fall, and reduce watering during Winter months.
