This plant requires full sun to part shade. Morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal for protecting foliage from our intense Charleston Climate, which can cause yellowing. While it can grow in more shade, more sun equates to better blooms.
This plant thrives in moist, well draining soil and is drought tolerant once established. While it is establishing (during it's first year), water deeply 1-2 times per week (more often in extreme heat) to keep the root ball moist (but not waterlogged) and to encourage growth. Once the plant has established, water only when the top 2-3 inches of soil are dry.
This plant likes slightly acidic soil, we suggest Espoma Soil Acidifier.
