  • Dionaea muscipula, also known as Venus Fly Trap, is one of the best known carnivorous plant—native to South and North Carolina!

When insects disturb the tactile hairs inside the upper surface of the folded leaves or "mouth" the hinged halves of the leaf snap shut, trapping its prey inside. The plant stimulates a digestive flow of enzymes once the prey is detected. Following the digestion of the prey, the nutrients are absorbed and the leaf resets to its open position.

Please Note: This is an endangered species that cannot be legally collected from the wild.
