Beaucarnea ‘Ponytail’ Palm

The Beaucarnea recurvata, also known as Ponytail Palm, is a part of the asparagus family and technically a succulent, making it a great addition for indoor plant collections. It is characterized by its tremendous swollen base that tappers into its cascading “fountain-like” leaves. This is a slow growing plant.

The Ponytail Palm needs bright, direct sunlight if grown indoors or full sun if grown outdoors.

Spring/ Summer:
Water once every two to three weeks. Check for moisture in between waterings being sure the soil is fully dried out before watering again.

 

Winter:
Water once a month. Check for moisture in between waterings being sure the soil is fully dried out before watering again.

 

This is a drought tolerant plant—it must be planted in well draining soil such as those for cactus and succulents.

If grown indoors, keep your leaves clean for optimal photosynthesis with Houseplant Cleaning Wipes or Leaf Cleaning Gloves.

 

Because this plant is technically a succulent, we suggest Espoma Liquid Cactus Plant Food.
