In Charleston, we're lucky to have something in bloom through most of the year. You can stroll the historic streets and tucked away neighborhoods and find window baskets and pots overflowing with texture and color, no matter the season! Gardeners have to get a little creative through the cold January days and occasional freezing night; yet come mid February, this town is bursting with blooms! If you're ready to refresh your containers for the upcoming season, these are the late winter and early spring flowers in Charleston we'd recommend.

  1. Ranunculus: Talk about a show stopper! Ranunculus scream 'spring is here' and thrive in our late, mild winter temps. The vibrant, layered blooms are stunning and add a delicate pop of color to any container.

  2. Stock or Snapdrgons: If you're looking to add some height to your containers, consider incorporating stock or snapdragons. You can find these tall, impressive flowers in varying colors and enjoy the blooms through the spring months!

  3. Begonias: Need flowers in the shade? No problem! Begonias are a go-to for part sun to shade pots and bring glossy green leaves and blooms in multiple different shades so everyone can find what they need.

  4. Nemesia: Fill up some space in your container gardens with full and fluffy nemesia! Their tubular shaped blooms and textured foliage are the perfect addition to your early spring garden.

  5. Alyssum or Lobularia: This might be a hot take, but every pot needs flowers spilling over the sides! We love alyssum and lobularia for it's dense clusters of tiny flowers that perfectly trail out of your containers.

Find these blooms and more at Meeting Green! Plus, we'll be bringing in other spring favorites like tulips and daffodils soon so stop in and see what's new to
