duplicate your houseplants: propagation 101

Learn how to duplicate your houseplants in a few easy steps! Propagating houseplants in water is a fun and rewarding way to create new plants for yourself or friends and family. Most indoor plants propagate easily and this is especially true for aroids like pothos, philodendron, monstera, and scindapsus. 1. identify the node
Look along the stem of your plant for the area where petioles and leaves are growing. You should see brown bumps!
2. make your cuts
Cut along the stem, between two nodes, and be sure to include one to two nodes on each cutting for best results. More nodes = more roots!
3. remove leaves
Remove the leaves close to the node(s) that are going in the water to avoid submerging foliage. Leaves submerged in water will rot and negatively impact root growth.
4. place cuttings in water
Place your cuttings in a vessel with water in bright, indirect light. Be patient and watch your new plants grow! Once your cuttings grow roots about 2 to 3 inches size, it's time to plant them in a pot with soil.
