Buxus 'NewGen Freedom' Boxwood
Buxus hybrid, also known as a New Gen Freedom Boxwood, is a cultivar of Boxwood—originally from Europe and Asia—and is an evergreen shrub. They are one of the oldest known cultivated garden plants dating back to 4000 BC. Boxwoods are best known for their low maintenance, dense growth habit and deer resistance making them a favorite shrub for hedges, topiary and bonsai. This plant is deer and rabbit resistant. There are about 150 commercially available species and cultivars of boxwoods—this particular variety is a specifically bred cultivar designed to resist devastating diseases that often kill regular, traditional boxwoods. It is a fast growing shrub, featuring a vigorous growth rate of 3 to 6 inches per year, allowing it to establish structure and fill in garden spaces much more rapidly. Due to uniform growth, it has a naturally rounded shape that is slightly taller than it is wide, reaching about 3.5ft tall and wide at 15 years in optimal growing conditions.

This plant needs regular deep watering during the first year of its establishment. Once established, it becomes drought tolerant. While tolerant of some drought, boxwoods should be mulched and irrigated during long dry periods particularly in the first year to prevent stress.
Because of its rapid, vigorous growth, it requires annual or semi-annual pruning in late winter or early spring to maintain a tight, formal habit. For this, we recommend Modern Sprout Pruning Shears.
