Foraging in the Garden

Spring has sprung and Charleston is in full bloom! The sunshine and fragrant flowers are inspiring and much needed after a cold winter. This week, we're thinking back to those cold January days when we were talking about 2025 gardening trends and predicted that foraging in your own garden would become more popular this year.

The word foraging, in the simplest terms, refers to searching for resources in the wild. Throughout history, this meant finding foliage for medicine and gathering food for the table. But, at Meeting Green, we're talking about adding natural elements to your home decor! Foraging in your garden continues this ever present idea of "bringing the outside in," while adding a fun, interactive element. Spring is finally here and people are looking for ways to connect with nature this season and being able to bring greenery, blooms, and branches (that you grew!) into your home is as rewarding as it is beautiful!

If you think you can't forage in your yard, think again! You don't need a cut flower garden to create a beautiful arrangement for your home. You can cut stems from tropicals like chinese fan palms, lady palms, and fatsia or from evergreen shrubs like pittosporum and viburnum. Plus, blooming shrubs like hydrangea, smokebush, butterfly bush, and roses make great additions to any arrangement.

We also have plenty of blooms for you to add to your garden for cut flowers all season. Come shop zinnias, salvia, yarrow, coneflower, coreopsis, goldenrod, queen-anne's-lace and more! Adding blooms to your garden is not only attractive, but it's also good for your local pollinators like bees, beetles, and butterflies!

Ready to get foraging this spring? Sign up for our Floral Workshop happening Wednesday, May 7th at 5:30 to forage and design your own arrangement! You'll learn the basics of flower arranging with Alyssa (aka Wilderbloom Co) and she'll will walk you through designing the perfect floral arrangement. Come have fun and leave the workshop with a beautiful piece of art for your space. Come solo, with a friend, or bring your mom for Mother's Day! This workshop is beginner friendly so come get your creative juices flowing!
